Send + Receive: A Festival of Sound

In 1998, Send + Receive (Winnipeg) was founded by jake moore (who also named it) and Steve Bates with the support of Robert Sauvey, who was then the distribution coordinator at Video Pool Media Arts Centre. Without jake and Video Pool, S+R would very likely not be around today. From 1998-2004 I was fortunate enough to be the director of Send + Receive. During this time, jake offered guidance and supported the festival's operations, conceptual framing and endless heavy lifting. In that time, Send + Receive presented the work of numerous local, national and international artists. A programming committee developed around Don Bargenda, Deanna Radford, Tom Kohut, Ted Turner, Nadin Gilroy while many others were integral to the festival's survival and cohesion in the early days. Michel Germain provided technical coordination in the later years of this period.

Send + Receive continues to program innovative and exciting sound art and avant-garde music.
