MAUSSADE

On December 2, sound artist and musician Steve Bates, whose work Concertina is on display in the Triennial, will offer us a Black White Red Nocturne. A graduate of the punk rock scene and founder of the Winnipeg sound art festival Send+Receive, Bates takes the stage with distinctive energy and is proposing a performative Nocturne of electronic noise music. This performance will also feature jake moore (also in the Triennial), Lanterner (Steve’s noise duo with Marc-Alexandre Reinhardt) in collaboration with filmmaker Karl Lemieux, as well as Maussade (Bruno Julian) who is offering a solo set. Live sound by Timothy Herzog.

jake moore & steve bates - 100 Lines
jake moore works at the interweaving of object, space, sound, and text making in a hybrid yet fluid practice of installation, design, and performative acts. Predicated by a notion of exchange and emissive potential, she works in any medium necessary.

For Black White Red, jake and steve will be performing excerpts from 100 Lines, a text-piece. 100 Lines gathers lyrics from punk and post-punk groups they imagined critical to their aesthetic and political experience. Each assigned the other the task of choosing 50 lines from lyrics of punk and post-punk bands, a critical noise they imagine as fundamental to their aesthetic and politic experience.

Lanterner with Karl Lemieux
Lanterner are a two piece improvising group that shifts between rock, noise and drone. Tangled pop songs with stuttered beats slide into full-on noise workouts. Their debut full-length CD was released by ORAL Records in September, 2011. For this performance they are joined by internationally recognized filmmaker, Karl Lemieux.

MAUSSADE - Choc Septique
