Run out and on to infinity is a work connected to Black Seas, a larger body of work influenced by historical and contemporary aspects of pathological and non-pathological auditory hallucination. It responds to ideas of how the body and mind react to a state of 'nothingness', 'silence', the void, and empty space.
Using a high-resolution scan of a section of sky from a Gustav Doré etching for Dante's Inferno, custom-made wallpaper was produced as the backdrop to an audio-visual assemblage of turntable and video monitor. The turntable plays back a lathe cut vinyl record with a composition cut into its grooves that the audience does not hear. Instead, a small circuit adds a timing/sync pulse to the signal to allow the video monitor to play back the sound as video.
