Three drummers perform to a video score of chairs falling down stairs. Somewhere between foley, musical improvisation and visual score, the three synchronized projections of the drummers are seen and heard as they interpret their video scores.
The work considers improvisation and composition, performance, the archiving of performative events, the act of listening and the act of looking at listening. The sites for the chair falls were all sites of 'power' in Montréal including Square Victoria, Palais de justice de Montréal, Hotel de Ville, Notre-Dame Basilica de Montreal, and Musée de la Banque de Montréal and borrow from the aesthetics of skateboard videos as they document the movement of skaters through the urban environment. Free and wild.
There is also a live performance version of Chairs Falling.
The Drummers: Louis-Alexandre De Beauregard, Yannick Desranleau, and Marc-Alexandre Reinhardt
